Music takes me to another place, always has. I am a singer songwriter from Australia. I grew up on Sydney’s northern beaches playing bass guitar and singing in 3-piece indie band Swirl with Ben Aylward and David Lord. We played headline shows and supported many prominent Australian bands, and some English and US bands, including The Lemonheads and My Bloody Valentine. Swirl also toured the US college circuit, including a gig at the CMJ Music Seminar in New York. In Australia we became one of Half A Cow record label’s stable acts, and overseas, Dirt Records in the US, and Kitty Record in Japan released Swirl’s collection.
Sons for Strength is my 7th solo album and was self-written, recorded and produced. It was mastered by William Bowden.
The release consists of 9 tracks of ethereal, dream pop that reflect on love of all kinds. These tracks are simple verse about human nature which I hope people find uplifting.
It’s like a ‘quiet epic’ this one!
William Bowden’s comment after mastering the latest 2024 single, Freefall from upcoming 2025 album.
Probiotic Muzik’s blog about Nicola’s album, Field of a String (2022) included the following quote:
What I like more than anything about writing on this blog besides presenting more or less obscure music from the past, is discovering what I myself have missed, and trust me, there’s a lot! One of my biggest sources of old and new music are Lord Litter’s radio shows that stream forever on the Internet Archive, and that’s how I recently came to know about Nicola Schultz, even though she has been recording since the late 80’s. Lord Litter also told me that Nicola was a recommended listen to him by Don Campau, so it’s yet another layer of the Don Campau trickle down effect!
Julee Cruise-like vocals combined with Paul Simon rhythms.

Simon Topper, Rave Magazine wrote of Nicola’s first solo release:
Searching for the Goddess…is the sound of an artist. Creating art. The local singer-songwriter has compiled a variety of songs on this EP that are achingly gentle on the ears, like a series of tunes played not by traditional guitars and keyboards, but carried in on the breeze…what is virtually audible is Nicola Schultz pouring her soul into this serene project.
